Here are the common greetings that we Filipinos use. Don't forget to smile while you're saying them because we Filipinos love to smile.

Although you see the Tagalog translations of the phrases below, you can still use the English translations and still be understood by most Filipinos, since we often use English phrases as well. You may not translate phrases such as Hi, Good morning, Good afternoon, Good evening, Happy Birthday, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Thank you and Good luck, since we are also using them.

I'm okay. Okay naman. / Okay naman po.

I'm fine. Mabuti naman. / Mabuti naman po.

How about you? How are you? Eh Ikaw? Kumusta?

Good morning! Magandang umaga!

Good afternoon! Magandang hapon!

Good evening! Magandang gabi!

Happy Birthday! Maligayang kaarawan!

Merry Christmas! Maligayang Pasko!

Happy New Year! Manigong Bagong Taon!

Good bye! Paalam! / Babay!

Thank you. Salamat! /Salamat po!

Thank you very much! Maraming salamat!

You're welcome. Walang anuman.

NOTE: You will add the word "PO" if you are talking to an elder or someone in higher authority like your boss or teacher, as a sign of respect. It is usually inserted at the end of a phrase.
